I’ve always been a fan of a magazine, from putting a Thrasher subscription on the Christmas list, to spending hours on the carpeted floor of a Barns and Noble with a stack of skate and alternative music magazines, to making zines in my early 20’s.
Recently a new ideration of this old obsession resurfaced in the physical newsletter we made a few months ago. The Kinkos code was traded for actually paying for news print, and the Barns and Noble floor was traded for actually buying magazines from Casa Magazine.
If that pointless background story didn’t convince you that magazines are cool, consider this. Who would you rather have influencing the content you absorb, some loser who stared at a black screen for 2 years creating an algorithm that decides your social media feed, or a person who dedicated their entire life to a culture and has become respected enough to be appointed editor at a publication.
So get out there buy some magazines and get on this high horse with me.
If you made it this far, we are working on issue 2 of the physical newsletter. Let us know if there are any stores you think should carry them (for free)
Trying to expand the distribution list (just reply to this email with stores names and we will hit them up :))
Here are some recent mags I’ve enjoyed:
Gentlewoman - Great interviews and lots of luxury fashion ads and editorials
Surfers Journal - Classic in the surf world, mix of new and old surf content, very grown up but always amazing photography, writing, and very few ads
Alpinist - Best of the US outdoor adventure magazines I've seen
Go Out - Japanese outdoor fashion, best I’ve seen in the outdoor fashion realm even though I can’t read it
And some videos because who are we kidding reading is hard
14 Peaks: Nothing Is Impossible - Netflix - Unreal story following a Nepalese mountaineer
Surf - youtube - newer vans vid
-Fantasy Sport Packs :)
