Anyone been watching the Olympics? I’m pretty sure the Olympics are bad for the world so I’m not trying to put on for how cool and good the games are or anything like that… But I’ve been watching, and here’s my analysis so far of events I’ve caught.
Surfing - So boring. Left tube, left tube, boring people talk for 5 minutes, left tube, left tube, repeat for 35 minutes. Even when it got big still pretty boring.
Skating Men’s Street - It’s too crazy, who decides if a nollie 270 noseblunt or a switch heel crook is harder. It’s all subjective and unobtainable and Ryan Sheckler is just talking about how switch skating is like throwing with your opposite hand and it’s soooo hard after every trick.
Skating Women’s Street - Pretty sick, Sheckler is still annoying and boring. But the field of skaters are all so young and seeing a 14 year old do a big flip front board down a big hand rail is insane. Coco rips and Rayssa has actual sick style, insane kick flip back lip.
Swimming - Very fun, everyone’s tried it and can relate and you can kind of tell how fast they are going. Races are so close at the end seems like everyone is tied so it’s exciting, also is somehow fun when one person is way ahead too because it’s just like holy shit they must be really good.
Men’s Gymnastics - Can’t really figure out what is going on or understand the difficulty. But for the men’s US team event there was this one dude who just sat in the corner with glasses and a full sweat suit on the whole event while everyone else was competing and celebrating he had no emotion. Then he was the last person to compete in the last event of the whole thing and I guess he did really good then he went fucking crazy with the whole team. That was funny.
Women’s Gymnastics - Still don’t understand how hard everything is but Simone Biles goes like 4 feet higher at everything than everyone else so I get why she’s the star.
Ok now that we got that out of the way Amateurs Mag Issue 2 has been out for around a month now. Do you have your copy? GET IT HERE
Sales have slowed down a little, but we are working on distribution. Right now you can check out Amateurs in person in: Manhattan, Brooklyn, Portland Maine and Portland Oregon, Seattle, Hudson NY, St. Louis, Los Angeles, Oakland, and Philadelphia. FULL STOCKIST LIST If you know any hubs for outdoor culture or just general cool places that sell print where you live let me know and I’ll try to get them some copies. We are also working on distribution in Europe and the UK so that people can check it out without paying $30 shipping.
We are already working on issue 3 too it can only get better from here.
Maybe you’re confused about this newsletter, I’ll catch you up. So it was the FSP Newsletter where I would just talk about random stuff and let people know about new products and projects and stuff. Then we started a magazine called Amateurs. And doing Amateurs was pretty fun so we decided to keep doing it, and since it’s basically the same voice as FSP the newsletter made sense if it came from the publication. So maybe you signed up for the FSP newsletter and now its called Amateurs, that’s confusing but it’s the same thing. Maybe you signed up for the Amateurs newsletter and it’s going to be talking about new FSP products, that’s confusing but by this point you probably realize it’s the same thing. So glad we cleared that up. But moral of the story is social media sucks and organic sharing between friends is the only way to find interesting things so tell some friends.
In FSP news there’s a bunch of new bags coming in the next few weeks. Redesigned Lumbar Packs in new fabrics and colors. Travel Roll toiletry bags in 3 colors with new fabric. And an all new ultra light toiletry bag. Pics and release coming soon.
Ok this is really getting long now so here’s some pics from the last roll from a trip to the Smokey Mountains and some random shit at home. No more reading
Bye

in the 'general cool places that sell print where you live' category, I'd add, both in SF:
- Heath Newsstand
- Kinokuniya
Glad I wasn’t the only one confused about the sweatsuit guy. Would be interested in hearing your review of ping pong.
